On a Midnight Clear

On A Midnight Clear is a wonderful historical, Christian, romance Christmas novella collection. Written by outstanding, bestselling Christian authors, these three delightful novella are based on the story of the Nativity. Each tale has a strong faith message that allows the Christian message to shine.

The first one is The Shepherd’s Heart by the amazing author Tracie Peterson. It is a sweet tale about a second chance at romance between a spinster and a widowed sheep rancher father. The characters are wonderfully crafted with skill and imagination. They are relatable and very likable. One of my favorites was Granny Duran. The writing is excellent. I did not put the book down until I finished this story.

Next is In No Room At the Inn by gifted authors Misty M. Beller. It is the story of Hope Palmer and her brother, Martin. They run the Split Rock Inn in Nebraska Territory and offer shelter and food to travelers. I was riveting to this interesting romance. The author whisked me away to Texas and stagecoach stops. There is a mystery in this one that will keep you guessing. The writing is smooth and flows evenly. I was invested within the first couple of pages.o

The last tale is A Star in the West by the talented wordsmith Karen Witemeyer. It is a clever twist on the Three Wisemen who followed the star. This is the story of Stella Barrington and Frank Stentz. The author takes us to Waco, Texas and into the world of Harvard mathematics professors. The characters are expertly crafted, and the writing is magnificent. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this holiday tale.

This is a lovely collection of holiday novella. It will be an excellent gift for any bookworm especially if they are not acquainted with one of the authors. Each novella receives a 5 star rating, as well as the book. I highly recommend it. A complimentary copy was provided, but these are my honest words.

A Constant Love Celebrate Lit Book Tour

A Constant Love is a Christian historical western romance fiction by the talented wordsmith Tracie Peterson. It is book one in her new The Hope of Cheyenne series. After finishing it, I am eagerly awaiting book two. Yes, book one is that good!

It took only a few pages for me to become fully invested in the story and characters. Author Peterson has an inviting way with words. I love her style of writing. She took me back to the late 1880s in Wyoming where I learned about life there. Her characters are carefully crafted, and they sounded realistic and believable.

This is the tale of Charlotte and Micah. It is filled with Christian messages, hardship, danger, adventure, emotions, grief, romance, and love. There are twists and turns that will surprise you. I did not want to stop reading it until it was finished. It totally captivated me.

I highly recommend this beautiful book. It has stuck with me long after finishing it. This would make a fantastic reading group choice. There is so much to discuss. Historical and western fiction lovers will enjoy this immensely. It gets a 5+ star rating from me. A complimentary copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words

About the Author

Tracie Peterson is the bestselling author of more than 100 novels, both historical and contemporary, with more than 6 million copies sold. She has won the ACFW Lifetime Achievement Award and the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Her avid research resonates in her many bestselling series. Tracie and her family make their home in Montana.

More from Tracie

A Constant Love is a book near and dear to my heart. The book deals with tragedy and loss that came about during and after the Great Die-Up—a hideous winter of blizzards and desperately cold temperatures that affected the prairie states and up into the Rockies. Many of the ranchers in the areas were completely wiped out and gave up their ranches when their cattle died off in record numbers.

Ranchers and farmers had dealt with the elements turning against them prior to this, but the winter of 1886–1887 was different. The summer of 1886 had brought about record droughts, and many of the crops had failed. The livestock suffered as the grass died off and feed wasn’t readily available. By November, early and heavy snows started and continued. Temperatures dropped to record lows. In eastern Montana the temperatures were said to drop to  negative 63 degrees Fahrenheit.

In January, a Chinook wind warmed things considerably, melting a lot of the snow. This just made things worse, however, because when the plunging sub-zero temperatures returned, the water froze a thick layer on top of what little grass the animals had been able to dig down to eat. Mass starvation followed, and thousands upon thousands of animals were lost. In reading about the era and all that happened, I came across comments from people that showed the great despair that flooded the states involved. The hopelessness of it all was overwhelming.

During the same time I was researching and mapping out this book, a beloved family member committed suicide. The devastation we felt was overwhelming, and it all seemed to come together with what I had been reading. I felt that deep sadness and despair. I read that some people had taken their lives after that winter. People were at a loss as to what to do, and in that day and age, the church was not always very kind to the families of those who killed themselves. As I prayed about the book I planned to write, I felt compelled to write about suicide and the ripple effect it has on family, friends, and even total strangers. I wanted to share the hope that I found in God’s Word, and A Constant Love was born.

There are times in our lives when we are overwhelmed to the point of despair, when giving up seems far easier than going on. I pray if you ever feel that way, you’ll reach out to someone and talk it through. But I also challenge those who aren’t feeling that way to be observant . . . to care about those around you enough to get in their business when things just don’t seem right. You might very well save a life. As the Bible says, we need to bear one another’s burdens. I hope you’ll keep that in mind as you read A Constant Love.

Endless Mercy Celebrate Lit Book Tour

Endless Mercy written by award winning, best selling authors Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse is Book Two in their Treasures of Nome Series. It is set in 1904 Nome, Alaska. If you haven’t read Book One, Forever Hidden, you will not have a problem following the story. This is a beautiful albeit gritty at times Christian historical romance.

This series is about the three Powell sisters. In book one we meet Havyn. In this book it is the story of Madysen. I love that they live on a farm and have animals. Havyn has chickens and Madysen has sheep. Their mother has died and a kindly neighbor lady from town, Granny Beaufort, fills in and listens with a loving heart. She is a charming character.

This is Madysen’s story. She is a talented, beautiful, feisty young red haired woman that dreams of entertaining on stage. She has issues she is working with on forgiveness and grief. Her dead father suddenly appears making her confused, angry, and cold. Thankfully she has her beloved sheep to calm her.

This is also the story of Daniel. He is angry at God because of the death of both of his parents. He wants to start a dairy. With his help, the girls farm has started making cheese. They needed this to sustain them. His relationship with Maddy is up against competition with the entertainment manager, Buddy.

The girls continue their regular worship of God and invite Daniel to join. They never force him. While he declines it seems he is listening and having a change of heart. Maddy is, too. It is refreshing to read a Christian fiction book that has so much spiritual content woven into it.

These two award winning authors make a fabulous writing team. The style is lovely. The story is smooth and flows with an even pace. All of the characters are well described and believable. The lessons presented in this novel are timeless. Twists and turns make it fun. This book, and series, is truly wonderful. It has historical fiction, romance, suspense, mystery, faith, and life lessons. I enjoyed the Christian message of forgiveness and mercy.

I highly recommend this captivating book. It gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but these are my honest words.

Still, Madysen is restless and dreams of performing her music around the world. Daniel Beaufort arrives in Nome, searching for his own answers after the gold rush leaves him with only empty pockets. It’s so exciting for book two in our Treasures of Nome series, Endless Mercy, to be heading out into the world! Tracie and I are so thrilled to bring you another story set in Nome, Alaska. And isn’t that cover gorgeous? Bethany House does such an amazing job with our books, it is an absolute joy to get to work with them.

In book one, Forever Hidden, we are introduced to three sisters and their family (and farm) in Nome. Forever Hidden is Havyn’s story. And did I mention there are chickens? Check out my blog for some interesting pictures and stories about how these chicken stories came to be…

Book two, Endless Mercy, is Madysen’s story. Madysen is the youngest sibling, and in our story, she’s a talented cello player. Oh, and there are some sheep, who just might help get her into mischief. (Are you seeing a pattern here?)

Book three will release January 2022 and will finish out the Powell girls’ stories with the eldest, Whitney.

This series is very near and dear to us because the Powell sisters in the books are actually named after three beautiful girls we adore. They were music students of mine in Colorado and when Tracie and I had a book signing for In the Shadow of Denali, the red-headed, musical sisters all came. Tracie made the comment that someone should write a book about them…so of course…we did!

I wish you could hear the girls play and sing in real life. They are such talented musicians, and I love them dearly. Huge thanks go to Monica and Merle Powell for allowing us to take their three girls and make fictional characters out of them.

Here’s a picture of Monica with me and Tracie at a book signing years ago. And then of course, I had to put in a picture of the real Powell girls.

We’d love for you to join us for The Treasures of Nome. Enjoy the blog tour!

“When You Are Near” by Tracie Peterson Book Tour & Giveaway

Today’s blog features Celebrate Lit’s Book Tour of Author Tracie Peterson’s “When You Are Near.”  This Christian historical romance is Book One in her new series “Brookstone Brides.”  As with all of the Celebrate Lit Book Tours, you have a chance to win a great prize or two.  Be sure to read all of the way to the bottom and enter.

My Thoughts on the Book

Within the first chapter I knew this was a Christian book so I was thrilled.  It is witnessed in their daily lives and not heavily preached.  This is a very different tale than any I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I bet you would, also.

The author has an easy style of writing.  She doesn’t rush her story but lets it blossom as it unfolds.  The characters are engaging.  They are described in such a way that I wanted to be their friend. The storyline has been well planned and researched.  Attention is given to details and I was able to glean some things from this story.

This is the tale of Lizzy Brookstone, a female trick rider in a Wild West show.  Author Peterson vividly describes the action so it is easy to picture the riders and stunts.  There is even a female sharp shooter.  It is amazing the things these ladies can do.  Lizzie and her mother are grieving the death of Lizzie’s father.  My heart broke for them in some places.  I could feel their pain and loss.  Their emotions jumped from the pages straight into me.

As the story progresses we meet more characters with their own baggage.    Both men and women alike add to the story and will certainly return in Book Two.  It is a well rounded cast of lovable and not so lovable people.

This book contains something for everyone.  Danger, mystery, intrigue, romance, inspiration, and plenty of action.   It takes on love, death, faith, hope, friendship, family, justice and God’s protection.  I encountered a few twists and turns as well as some life lessons within the pages, too.  The characters range from an English gentleman to rowdy  wrangling cowboys.

This is another page turning, don’t put me down book from talented booksmith Peterson.  She provided entertainment, education, and inspiration.  The only thing I missed was a discussion question section.  I highly recommend this beautifully written novel.  Anyone would adore it.  It earns a 5 out of 5 stars from me.  A copy was provided by by Celebrate Lit but I was under no obligation to write a review.  These are my own, honest word

About the Book

When You Are Near

Book: When You Are Near

Author: Tracie Peterson

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: March 5, 2018

After her father’s death, Lizzy Brookstone, a trick rider in the all-female Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, wants nothing more than to quit her role as the star of the show and live a quiet life on her family’s ranch. But returning home would bring Wesley DeShazer, the ranch’s foreman and the man who broke her heart, back into her life. In addition, the Brookstones’ new manager fears that Lizzy’s departure could doom the already cash-strapped show.

Hope grows in Lizzy during a stopover at Fleming Farm. Ella Fleming not only has a natural talent for trick riding and could easily replace Lizzy, but she’s eager to join the show to flee a forced betrothal. However, while there, one of the show’s wranglers is killed in a manner Lizzy finds suspicious. And during her escape from the farm, Ella stumbles across a secret that could affect all of their lives, as well as the future of the Brookstone Extravaganza.

Guest Post from Tracie

Introducing…When You Are Near!

I’m excited about the new Brookstone Brides series and had so much fun researching for the various characters and locations. This is a story about a fictional Wild West show with all female performers. Prior to the rodeos we see today, the Wild West shows traveled throughout America and Europe to entertain people and give city dwellers a taste of what the American frontier was like. At least their version.

Buffalo Bill Cody was famous for his shows, which brought Native Americans and their culture into the world of people who might otherwise never have even seen an “Indian.” Pawnee Bill was another entertainer who sought to keep these shows alive.

For the fictional show in my novels, I wanted to focus on three female characters who became a part of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza for varying reasons. Lizzy Brookstone is the heroine in book one, When You Are Near, and as the daughter of one of the show’s owners, she has enjoyed a starring role as a trick rider.

For research I went to Pueblo, Colorado to the ranch of Karen Vold, a famous trick rider and rodeo star. Linda Scholtz, a famed trick rider, was teaching a clinic there along with Karen at the Red Top Ranch Trickriding School.

These are two remarkable Christian trick riders who have long worked to keep the sport alive. I spent three days getting to know them and what they do and learned so much. And just to prove that we weren’t all work and no play, I thought I’d share my attempt at trick riding. What I won’t do for research!

The series will have three books, as usual, and each book will focus on a different lady and her skills. Mary is a trick shooter like Annie Oakley, and Ella is a Roman rider who stands on the backs of two horses for her part in the act. It was so interesting learning about each of these types of performers, and I hope you’ll get a chance to read all three and enjoy the stories of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza.
