Seven Brides for Seven Texans Celebrate Lit Book Tour

Seven Brides for Seven Texans is a fantastic collection of Christian historical western romance novellas. Each brother has his own story detailing his search for a bride in this exquisite group about the Hart brothers. Various authors penned each tale yet they all were finely woven together. This was a great book!

Opening the book is the explanation for the brothers’s search for brides. I began to fall in love with each of the uniquely named cowboy from there. Every brother was carefully crafted with unique characteristics and traits, but all of them were handsome, hardworking, strong, and kind. 

The writing was very well done. Humor, serious scenes, twists and turns, and the Christian faith sprinkled throughout each story made this an interesting book. The conversations were realistic and true to the time period. I learned a little bit of Texas history from this book. From the first chapter I was invested in this tale and its larger than life characters.

I highly recommend Seven Brides for Seven Texans. A reading group would enjoy this sweet, clean book with all of its swoon-worthy men. It gets a 5 star rating from me. A complimentary copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.

Hi, I’m Erica Vetsch, and I loved collaborating on the stories for the 7 Brides for 7 Texans collection. It was fun writing stories that were so intertwined, and working closely with the other authors in the collection to bring the whole concept together.

Initially, I was approached by a publisher, asking if I would be interested in heading up a novella collection loosely based on the idea of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, the classic musical. The parameters were that the stories must be no longer than 25K words, be historical in setting, and that I could choose the overall concept, as well as my team of authors.

I, of course, jumped at the chance. Before I contacted anyone, I worked up a rough idea of the premise of the stories. A wealthy Texas rancher with seven strapping sons is tired of waiting for them to get married and provide him with grandchildren, so he issues an ultimatum. Get married by the end of the calendar year, or you’re disinherited.

I named all the sons after famous Texans, and gave them a birth order, then I began contacting writing friends to see if they were interested in joining the project. Everyone I asked said yes! 

Then the real fun began. We formed a private Facebook group, and as the characters were chosen by the various authors, the order of the stories in the collection formed, and as ideas for storylines poured in, I began creating what we came to call The Master Document.

In the MD we tracked main characters’ names and appearances, secondary characters, a map of the fictional town of Hartsville, TX, and more. It eventually ran to more than 20 pages of information. We named the town newspaper, the general store, and kept track of the layout of the Harts’ massive ranch house. Keeping these details all in one place made it easy for the authors to flesh out their story world in a way that was consistent with everyone else’s stories.

Because the stories are so closely tied and on such a tight timeline, each of the authors’ characters would appear in another author’s novella. We needed to respect each other’s visions for the characters and treat them with respect, while also having the freedom to write our own stories.

Early on, as the project coordinator, it was established that if a dispute arose between two authors on how something should go, it would be myself who would cast the final vote. However, that contingency never came into play, as all the authors worked so well together.

One of the most challenging aspects of the project was, that as the project lead, and the one writing the final story in the collection, I needed to know the most about all the stories. Just before the deadline to turn our stories into the publisher, each author sent their story along to me to read for continuity. I spent a long weekend at author Gabrielle Meyer’s house, and we read every novella aloud, making notes for consistency and continuity throughout. These notes were turned in to the project editor, and she used them in her editing process to make sure seven separate stories felt cohesive.

It truly was a fun—and to me—unique, project, and when the publisher asked if I would like to head up a follow up collection, I was eager to say yes, and thus 7 Brides for 7 Texas Rangers was born.

Both of these intertwined collections went out of print, but they are now being released once more, this time through Wild Heart Books. I’m thrilled that we can tell our stories to new readers and prolong the lives of these characters.

Beyond Ivy Walls by Rachel Fordham Book Review

Beyond Ivy Walls by extraordinary author Rachel Fordham is a Christian historical romance. It reminded me of an interpretation of Beauty and the Beast. This is such a beautiful story and drew me in quickly.

Set in early 1900s Monticello, Iowa this is the story of Sadie West. Due to a family tragedy, she has left her home and gone to work in a feather duster factory. It is also the story of Otis Taylor. He is returning home to handle the family estate after the death of his brother. The way the two meet is so imaginative. 

The author has such an inviting style of writing. I became invested in the lives of the characters as well as the book. The characters were crafted with great care. They had depth, issues, and were believable. Some of them were absolutely lovable while others were despicable. The secondary characters were lovely, too. There were a few twists, a sweet romance, and history that provided knowledge on feather dusters. What do you know about feather dusters? After reading this lovely novel, you will know much more.

I highly recommend this exquisite tale. It will give you all kinds of feels. This would make a nice choice for a reading  group to dissect. There is so much to discuss and many life lessons as well as faith ones to glean. I plan on buying a few copies as gifts. It gets a 5 star rating from this reader. I absolutely loved it! Unforgiven Book Review

Unforgiven by the gifted author Shelley Shepard Gray is a Contemporary Amish Mystery Romance. This three-hundred-and-four-page paperback has an intriguing cover that begs readers to look inside. It is a nail-biting suspense that had me on the edge of my seat at times.

Set in Crittenden County, Kentucky, this is the tale of Amish outcasts, Tabitha Yoder and Seth Zimmerman. Two years ago Tabitha divorced her abusive husband, who has threatened to kill her. Three years ago Seth served time for being involved in an accidental death. Both of them are still searching for forgiveness and love. I loved how their relationship developed.

Author Gray never disappoints and this book is no exception. Characters are www crafted with depth. They are believable and either lovable or despicable. The author’s vast knowledge of the Amish people and their culture shines brightly as well as the Christian message of faith, forgiveness, hope, and love. The book starts out a wee bit slow, but that is just a few pages, and then it picks up to a page turning pace. The storyline is completely different than any other Amish book I have ever read. It was heart-warming, wwwqwqqwqwqwq, intriguing, and mysterious. There are some twists and turns to keep readers guessing. After the story the author has included a sneak peek at her next book and author notes. Be sure to read the notes to better understand why she wrote the story and more about it.

I highly recommend this fascinating novel. It gave me all kinds of feels and emotions. Amish and mystery fans will adore it. I give it a 5 out of 5 star rating. A copy was provided by the publisher, but these are my honest words.

The Divine Proverb of Streusel Book Review

The Divine Proverb of Streusel is a Contemporary Christian Fiction. This family saga by author Sara Brunsvold is filled with cooking and small town church/community. It is a cleverly crafted tale that is ripe with Christian messages, proverbs, scripture, and German recipes.

The author has an easy-going style of writing. A slow pace set the tone for the story. This is not a book to be rushed. It needs to be carefully read and pondered.

Easy to follow, it had me engaged with the distinct characters. I loved reading about the different women and men in Nikki’s family. Each character is precisely crafted to fulfill a specific roll in this poignant multi-generational Christian fiction that is unique in many ways. I adored sassy Aunt Emma. The semi-romance between Uncle Wes and someone sizzles. Sparks fly!

Parts of the story made me emotional along with the characters. It is so easy to relate to certain situations or have a friend that has experienced the same thing. The Christian and life lessons are beautiful. Forgiveness, family, love, redemption, and acceptance are main topics that have remained with me. The proverbs are definitely noteworthy. Sprinkled throughout the story are priceless old German recipes. It was fun reading how they were made and tasted.

A few things bothered me because it was a Christian fiction. There is talk of going to the gravesite to speak to a deceased relative. A mention of drinking beer and not telling their minister. Talk of superstition and hero worship also bothered me. This is just me and may not bother you. In the storyline, I felt let down when certain things were planned and never happened. The ending seemed to appear too soon and was rushed. Do these make it a bad book. Absolutely not!

The Divine Proverb of Streusel is book that will long remain with readers. It will encourage, entertain, inspire, make readers think differently about family and friends in trials. Any reading group would love this as a choice. There is so much to discuss. Hopefully we will see it on a screen sometime as it will make a dynamic movie. Fairest of Heart Book Review

Fairest of Heart by the amazing wordsmith Karen Witemeyer is a Christian historical romance novel. I was immediately invested in the story and characters. This was a brilliant interpretation of the Snow White fairy tale.

This is the story of Penelope. She is a fabulous character, who is always cheerful and hard working. It is also the story of Titus. What a great hero! The characters are all so engaging in this lovely story, especially the seven drovers. I loved those guys.

One of my favorite things about this book is the beautiful message of faith and Bible verses. I want Christian novels to include those, and this one did. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
