“Mary the Missionary, A Kenyan Adventure” by author Yvonne M Morgan is a Christian Children’s book. It is wonderfully illustrated by talented artist, Jack Foster. The pictures will draw children in and keep their interest while reading this delightful story.

This is the story of a young girl named Mary. She goes on a mission trip with her parents to Kenya. It is an eye opening experience for her as she gets to see first-hand how some other people live. She witnesses people living in mud huts, eating the intestines of goats, and women trying to balance buckets of water on their heads as they carry them from the river.

Children will love this engaging story as they learn lessons in acceptance, diversity, and the importance of helping others. This story will open the door to discussions about faith and how God loves all of us. Adults will be able to use this book as a teaching tool. It is a great book for school or school libraries, as well as for home.

In Kenya, Ugali is used as a fork to pick up their food. Ugali Recipe to try with your children:

Ingredients:

1 cup maize meal / corn meal

2 cups normal water

Instructions:

Heat water over medium heat in a deep pan. Make sure you use a pan with a handle.

Add the maize meal or cornmeal and keep on stirring with a strong wooden spoon.

Keep stirring and pressing the mixture against the sides of the pan to break up the lumps.

As the mixture becomes thicker, it becomes more difficult to mix but keep mixing and breaking up the lumps.

The mixture with begin to come away from the sides of the pan.

Allow it to cook for 2-3 minutes.

At this point transfer the ugali to a platter. Place the plate over the pan and turn it upside down.

Or you can transfer to a small heatproof bowl. Pat it down into shape. Place a plate over the bowl and turn it over.

Enjoy piping hot ugali with your favorite stew or curry.

A LittLe Christian’s Animals Celebrate Lit Book Tour

A Little Christian’s Animals is a Christian Children’s book by gifted author Lila Noffsinger. Lucy Shin expertly illustrates the charming animals and scripture scenes to coincide with the accompanying words. Children will delight in the rhyming prose as they hear about animals from the Bible.

Author Noffsinger offers a unique, entertaining, and educating book for children to learn the Bible beginning at a young age. With poetic phrases it will be easy for littles to memorize the verses and read along. Some of the animals include lions, dove, sheep, and even the snake from Genesis. The pictures are endearing and the short lesson engaging. This is a brilliant way to teach children about the Bible in a fun way.

This is a lovely book for children and works perfectly together with a child’s Bible to further explore the lessons. After the stories, there are a couple of pages of scripture references to expand on the lessons entitled Let’s Read More In Your Bible. References for The Jesus Storybook Bible and The Beginners Bible give the page number in each for the same stories.

I highly recommend this educational, entertaining, and enlightening book for children. This would make a great gift for any child aged one to five. Sunday School and Children’s Church teachers would benefit from having this in their classrooms. Church libraries will definitely want a copy or two. It would be great for a baby shower gift, also. I don’t need to look far to find inspiration for my books. Literally. My little inspirations are usually physically touching me. My three kids (ages 3 and under) bring joy, laughter, and a lot of books into my life. As a mom, I want books for them that are fun for me to read, engaging for them to look at, and enriching for their hearts and minds. What sprung up from that desire was The Little Christian Learning Collection, now including A Little Christian’s 123s, A Little Christian’s Animals, and the accompanying coloring & activity books.

It continues to fill me with joy when my kids pick these books off the shelf to read. My youngest daughter will toddle through the house with A Little Christian’s Animals in her hand, yelling “Am-mi-mals!” as a request to read it. If I accidentally skip the frog on the first page, she will turn back to it so she can point it out. Frogs have become her favorite animals, and, based on Lucy Shin’s adorable portrayal of them, I can’t blame her.

I’ve been so honored by the reports of these books being similarly loved in other households. It brings me so much joy to know that kids are asking to read these Bible stories over and over again.

I love the work that goes into constructing these books. The rhymes are fun to ponder over as I rock babies or cook dinner. I love the research that goes into making the illustrations historically and geographically accurate. Illustrator Lucy Shin is a joy to work with, and the way she turns my notes and scribbles into something adorable seems like magic to me.

I’ve also really enjoyed putting together the coloring and activity books. It’s yet another way to let kids engage with Bible stories, learn something new, and have fun doing it! I’ve been surprised by what a hit they’ve become, and I’m so glad that kiddos around the country are enjoying them. Psalms in Rhyme for Little Hearts Celebrate Lit Tour

Psalms in Rhyme for Little Hearts by author Donna Wyland is a charming Christian children’s book. Beautiful illustrations are done by Courtney Smith. I loved this book and will definitely be giving it as a gift many times.

Psalms are written in rhymes to draw the attention of children. This helps them memorize the psalms, too. There are twelve psalms written this way with a short prayer following each one. After these, Psalms from the ESV (English Standard Version) translation are presented. I was happy to see Psalm 23 was not one that was changed into a rhyming one.

This precious book is especially for children ages 4 to 8. The illustrations are cute and engaging. It is important to start little ones early hearing and reading God’s Word. I think this is a fabulous way to expose them to Psalms. It is great for parents, grandparents, daycares, and churches to have.

I highly recommend this excellent Christian children’s book. It would make a perfect gift for any occasion or “just because”. This receives a 5 out of 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by CelebrateLit, but these are my honest words.

Marcus and the Emperor’s Coin Celebrate Lit Tour

Marcus and the Emperor’s Coin by author Dennis Conrad is a Christian children’s picture book and Book Two in the In God We Trust series. Delightful illustrations are done by Courtney Smith. This is a fabulous book for children ages three to ten years of age that are interested in learning about coins and ancient times of when Jesus walked the Earth. This is a 52 page hardback book that is also available in kindle and audible.

This is the tale of a young, awkward boy named Marcus. His excitement and bubbly personality jump off of the pages and encourage readers to join his adventure. He is afraid that he is going to do something wrong and disappoint his father on their mission to deliver coins to Jerusalem. Marcus learns many things on the trip like how silver is mined and coins are minted. He has a few mishaps, too.

Children will enjoy the thrilling adventure Marcus and his father have. The illustrations are cute and go along with the story perfectly. The writing in simple and easy for children to follow and understand. After the story is a small glossary of terms used as well as scripture. The author has included questions about the story to help engage children. This is not only an entertaining book, but an educational and inspirational one, too. It provides a great faith message for children.

This is a lovely book. It is perfect for a Sunday School, Children’s Church, DayCare, and every home library. Many children could get their start in coin collecting by reading this brilliant series. How to Turn a Penny into a Teachable Moment

Connect with your child or grandchild by starting a coin collection.

Start with the penny, also known as the Lincoln Head Cent. The coins were first minted in 1909 because it was the 100^th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth.

Use the coin to help your child make the connections with who Lincoln was, what he did, and when he lived. Reasons why Abraham Lincoln is featured on a coin include the following:

Lincoln is often at the top of the list of America’s greatest presidents.
He helped to preserve the Union during the American Civil War.
His Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves.
The Gettysburg Address ranks as one of the best speeches of all time.

Now, Look On the Back (the Reverse)

Go through change to find the different images on the backs of pennies.

There are wheat ears (1909-1958) and the Lincoln Memorial (1959-2008).

To celebrate the 200^thanniversary of his birth, the U.S. Mint issued coins with four different images on the back. The Lincoln Bicentennial (2009) coins include a log cabin, Lincoln sitting on a log, Lincoln standing in front of the state capitol of Illinois, and an unfinished U.S. Capitol Building (the way it was when he was president.) For the past several years, there has is a shield on the back representing the preserved union (2010-Present).

Add one of each reverse to the child’s collection.

Don’t forget to mention the words, the date, and the mintmark.

The words include “One Cent,” “In God We Trust,” “Liberty,” “The United States of America,” and “E Pluribus Unum” which means “Out of many, one.”

Also, look for and find the year minted and the mintmark.

Find and add a coin from the child’s birth year to the child’s collection.

Look at the mintmark. It is a letter on the front of the coin under the date. The “D” is for Denver, the “S” for San Francisco, and the absence of a mintmark means the coin was minted in Philadelphia.

Add coins with the different mintmarks to the child’s collection.

Keep the collection safe in a small box or a Ziploc bag. Have fun. Add to the collection as time goes by.

The Christmas Gift Book Tour

My Review:

The Christmas Gift is written by author John Alexander and illustrated by Angela Capel. This is a delightful children’s book that will capture their attention any time of year, not just Christmas. The story is told in a rhyming sing-song prose that children love. Illustrations are charming and coincide perfectly with the tale.

This is a heartfelt book that will teach children the importance of giving and caring for others. The mice suffer issues that some humans sadly do. By reading this, it will introduce children to the hardships of others and how helping them will impact their lives.

Children ages 3 to 8 will adore this book. Parents will have much to discuss and teach their littles. This would make a great gift or addition to a children’s library. I highly recommend this beautiful book. It earns a 5 out of 5 star rating from Me. A copy was provided by the publisher, but these are my honest thoughts.

New Chicks at The Peaceable is part of the Peaceable Farm & Bookery Grami’s Stories for Children series by Caryl “Grami” McAdoo. This is a lovely children’s book that has a sweet real story, cute pictures, and thoughtful messages. Younger readers will adore this book.

Children will learn about all about chickens and be entertained with this tale. This book teaches lessons on how to overcome being afraid, obeying parents, and how to trust. A message about bullying and why it is bad is woven into this book. Chickens are known for having a “pecking order” and being bullies.

In the back of the book there are fun chicken facts and chicken terminology that will be engaging for children to read. There are many opportunities for discussions throughout this book. As the chicken population grows at The Peaceable Farm & Bookery, troubles come–all based all on the true story! One of our beautiful ‘Golden Laced Wyandotte’ hens got broody and wanted to sit on a nest and hatch a clutch of chicks!

The wee peepers, designated the “Songsters” and named Reba, Celine, Loretta, and Miley (the last by a reader’s daughter), experience the famous and proverbial “pecking order” chickens are so famous for. In human terms that can be called bullying though, and so Goldie, their mother teaches the girls how to respond those bully chickens!

Grami loves her “backyard birds”, and so does O’Pa! She expects the name of the twenty acres she and O’Pa live on in Red River County—The Peaceable—to be the spur for all its inhabitants to cohabitate peacefully with one another—and that includes the chickens!

She and O’Pa, her husband of fifty-five years have bought an incubator to hatch purebred chicks then raise fine, healthy birds to their laying age—usually four to five months—before finding them forever homes. We love our flock, and the babies grow so fast. Watching them is so much fun and relaxing, too!

Grami knows each hen and rooster by name, and they all are so affectionate! They come running whenever I head out the door (mostly because they want to see if I brought any food!) I love thinking about what they are saying to each other with all their clucking and purring and cackling!

This is why the books are partially written from the hens’ point of view as our first animals’ series, The River Bottom Ranch Stories featuring horses and goats and dogs among other wild animal characters. And all those farm animals were real ones that we owned and loved, too—like the chickens!

I talk to the children through a few pages full of dialogue to teach them about poultry and things of God. In NEW CHICKS at the Peaceable, I talk about bullies and how Jesus teaches us to respond, how they can be scary, but God is always with us and sends His angels to protect us!

The illustrations are photographs of our real chickens and The Peaceable Farm & Bookery. In the back of the book, there are a few pages of “Chicken Terminology” and fun “Chicken Facts” to teach the little ones more about the wonderful world of chickens!

I pray the precious little ones so dear to God’s heart will love the story and be blessed by it!

My Review

Darwin Finds Freedom is a delightful Christian children’s book by author NicoleLisa Schrader. It is beautifully illustrated by HC Ward. Children will love the vivid pictures that go along with the story.

This is the story of Darwin, a deer mouse, who happens to be a very scared one, too. His tale of finding freedom from fear and faith in the “King of all Creatures” is exceptionally penned accompanied with the most endearing pictures. Children ages 4-8 are sure to adore this book and glean the priceless message of trusting Jesus over their fears and gaining freedom.

Along his journey, Darwin encounters various animals and birds. Their conversations are quaint and thought provoking for young ones. Kids will easily become engaged with the characters and this wonderful story. I have no doubt with all of the animals it will become one of their favorites.

After the story are some discussion questions. These are followed by photos of each animal or bird that was in the story. Each picture is accompanied by some facts on that real life creature. Children love learning about animals and will delight in this.

There is so much to like about this fabulous book. I enjoyed the story with all of the additional characters. The Christian message was greatly appreciated. It is a wonderful way to plant seeds of faith in the kiddos’ minds. With the questions and facts at the end, it allows for parents to dig deeper with their children during reading time. Plus, the author even asks for suggestions for a sequel.

I highly recommend this book. It would be perfect for a Church to use in junior church, a library, or their Sunday School. This is a great book for any gift need, birthday, Christmas, or just because.

Bold and Brave Celebrate Lit Tour and Giveaway

Bold and Brave is a children’s picture book written and illustrated by K.A. Cummins. On the first page it has a sweet dedication and scripture Philippians 4:13. It is a great book on encouragement and overcoming fears.

This is a story about Lily. She is a young autistic girl with big dreams about singing a solo on the big stage. Unfortunately, she gets nervous around people and noises because of her autism. Lily has tremendous support from her parents and teacher. She also prays for help from God.

The author has written a lovely book depicting how to be brave and overcome fear. She has tucked in some facts about what groups of certain animals are called. Kids will love learning that. The illustrations show how sensitive some children can be to noises and crowds. I loved how it reinforced what can be done to support someone who is afraid. It should help children understand those with sensitivity issues better.

I highly recommend this book for children aged three to eight. Even though this has a scripture reference before the story, there is only one mention of praying and nothing else religious mentioned. It would make a great addition to a children’s school or church library. It gets a 4 out of 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.

“Bold and Brave” is about a young autistic girl who wants to sing a solo in the school’s choir show. While a colorful pair of socks initially inspired the fiction story, it was my personal experiences as a woman and as a mother that most influenced it.

Stories often use words to draw readers into what a character experiences, but I wanted to do something different for this story. I wanted the illustrations to show readers the parts of the young girl’s experience that are often harder to explain.

For some, the smallest actions can take effort and courage, and their boldness and bravery doesn’t always show on the outside.

I hope “Bold and Brave” inspires readers, and provides an accessible insight into one autistic experience.

A Little Christian’s 123s written by author Lila Noffsinger is one of the best Christian Children’s books that I have seen. It is beautifully illustrated by talented artist, Lucy Shin. Children will love the pictures as well as the unique method of using the Bible to learn to count. The rhyming prose will make it easy for them to learn about biblical things, too.

In this adorable book, each number from one to ten has its own page along with a Bible reference. The illustrations coincide with each lesson perfectly. The book begins with one for One God and ends with ten for the Ten Commandments. Each number has a little biblical explanation. At the end of the book are Scripture references for examples used for the numbers. Also included is a website link to download coloring pages that are included in the book. Children will love that.

I highly recommend this educational, entertaining, and enlightening book for children. This would make a great gift for any child aged one to five. Sunday School and Children’s Church teachers would benefit from having this in their classrooms. It would be great for a baby shower gift, too. It gets a 5 out of 5 star rating from me. About the Author

Lila Noffsinger grew up in a lazy beach town and now lives in an energetic city with her husband and two daughters. She has always loved sharing her Christian faith through the written word, and she is now excited to share her debut children’s book.

In looking for books for her first daughter, she had difficulty finding options that were not only educational but also spiritually enriching and visually engaging. After having her second daughter, she had some midnight hours to let her mind wander, that wandering turned into what became A Little Christian’s 123s. She looks forward to publishing more books in the Little Chrsitian series, teaching preschool level learning concepts with Bible stories. A Little Christian’s Animals is
currently in the works and expected to be available Fall 2023.

My first daughter was a good sleeper. As an infant, she would wake up, eat, and 20 minutes
later we’d be snuggling into our respective beds to return to dreamland. My second daughter
was a different story. When she woke up and ate, it was only the start of our time together.
To stay awake, I thought of traits of my family for each letter of the alphabet. My daughter is
Adorable, Bubbly, Caring, and so on. After nights of this, it morphed into things from the Bible
for each letter, and then later for each number. I enjoyed dwelling on these thoughts through
the midnight hours.

Meanwhile, in the daylight hours, I struggled to find books I wanted to read to my 1.5 year old.
We read and enjoyed a lot of books! But I desired to find a book that was cute, biblically
enriching, and educational. We had plenty of books that met one or two of the categories, but I
had this unexplainable urge to find a book that hit the trifecta.

Through God’s prompting and my own sleep deprivation, my nighttime musings and my daytime
seekings merged into the idea of writing my own book: A cute, Bible-based book about
numbers 1-10. The trifecta!

The book idea grew, and within the year people were reading published copies of A Little
Christian’s 123s! I am eternally grateful to illustrator Lucy Shin, who took my awful sketches
and pages and pages of historical and geographic reference pictures, and turned them into such
cute and engaging art! Without her, the book may have been educational and biblically
enriching, but I promise you that nobody would have wanted to look at it.

Since publishing the book, it has sold hundreds of copies and been enjoyed by kids all across the
country. My daughter loves to tell me that Jesus loves her and that He is her friend, which she
learned from the last page. I hope and pray that similar experiences are happening in other
homes as well!

Using an array of vivid pictures and easy to understand prose, this book is certain to be a favorite of children. It has a beautiful message of acceptance and gives children a glimpse into the world of someone with visual impairments.

My mother introduced me to books at a very young age. Mom read to me nearly every day—beginning with picture books then adding longer stories and poetry. I loved books and soon memorized the text of favorites so I could turn the pages and “read” them myself. (My own daughters did the same.) I could hardly wait until I went to school and learned to read so I could devour books on my own. In honor of my mom, The Smell of Summer’s release date is her birthday, May 15. I am her firstborn and her only summer baby. She always encouraged my writing.

My four-book Smells of the Seasons series are told in rhyme because that appeals to children. The Smell of Summer shares summer scenes from the life of April, a blind girl who uses her sense of smell to help her experience her world. The story includes elements that offer a fun companion text for connection to science including the senses, nature settings, animals, flowers, vegetable gardening, and other food. This is the second book in the series with April and her menagerie of pets.
