The Amish Widow’s Rescue Celebrate Lit Book Tour and Giveaway

Today my blog is a stop on “The Amish Widow’s Rescue” book tour by Celebrate Lit.  This is a Christian Amish fiction by author Rachel J. Good.  Read all about it, the author, the other stops, and the generous giveaway.  Wish I could win it!

My Thoughts

This is a Christian Amish romance by author Rachel J. Good.  It is Book 3 in her Love and Promises series but can easily be read as a stand alone.  The author knows her way around an Amish story, and this one drew me in quickly.

I enjoy Ms. Good’s style of writing.  The vivid descriptions of Amish Country and Pennsylvania Dutch language make me feel as though I am in Amish Country visiting with friends.  Apparently that is where the author compiles information and story ideas.

Conversation is plentiful and flows without a hitch in her latest book.  I love learning a new Amish word or two.  In this book the Amish District was more lenient or progressive than in other Amish novels I have read.  However, I have also read each district is unique.

The characters are well rounded and very relatable.  They are easy to like and engage with early on in the book.  Many times my heart hurt for a person or situation.  The children are show stealers in this.

This is the story of Grace.  She is a pregnant mother of two with a jam business and recently widowed.  Immediately I wanted to hug her and help.  It is also the tale of Elijah, her extremely handsome, helpful, generous neighbor who has built a wall around his heart.  Oh, Elijah!  My heart went out to him, too.

The author has been an exceptional job tugging on heartstrings and allowing readers to become emotionally involved in her story.  It has some twist and turns, inspiration, life lessons on trusting a God, hope, and letting go of the past.  The book deals with the death of a parent with children.  They each deal with it differently and tears rolled as I read.  They also were regular children so  I chuckled in a few places, too.

I would recommend this to anyone that likes Amish fiction or would like to give it a try.  The book moves along at a nice even pace without dragging.  I sat down to read a little bit and that was it!  I read it all.

A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but I was under no obligation to write a review.  These are my own, honest thoughts.  I rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.

More from Rachel

The story idea for The Amish Widow’s Secret came to me after I’d just finished reading stories to my Amish friend’s children to give her a little break. She was expecting a new baby, and while we sat in their kitchen enjoying a snack, her husband came in.

The tenderness in his eyes as they talked made my eyes well with tears. It was obvious how much they loved each other, and they both supported each other. A perfect companionship. Not everyone gets to experience that bond, that caring.

It made me wonder what she’d do without him, and the seeds of a story was born. I decided to explore how a widow would cope with a pregnancy and two children alone. In the Amish community, of course, no one is ever left on their own. Everyone chips in to help.

So, what if the handsome and reclusive bachelor next door felt obligated to help, but wanted to avoid getting involved? Would he eventually soften his heart toward children and love?

As I wrote, I wondered if Elijah Beiler could get over a previous heartbreak. He needed to face his past before he moved forward, so I gave him that opportunity. A surprise visit and unwelcome news force Elijah to rethink everything he believes about parenting and love. And about the person who destroyed his world. He also needs to face the bitterness he’s been harboring.

Sometimes learning more about the circumstances or reasons of the person who has hurt us causes us to see the whole situation in a new light, making it easier to let go of the hurt. That’s what happens to Elijah.

I hope his journey will encourage readers to consider the places in their lives where they’ve been holding onto pain and reevaluate those experiences in the light of God’s forgiveness and love. To write this story, I needed to do that too.

Pam Hillman’s The Crossing at Cypress Creek, Natchez Trace Series

My thoughts

Pam Hillman is a natural at storytelling.  She has a way of weaving a tale that captures my interest within the first few pages and keeps it until the end of the book.  This series is a tribute to her extraordinary talent.  Each book was better than the last.

I felt like I had been whisked away to the eighteenth century.  She had done her research and it was evident.  The scenery, attire, colloquiums, and characters all added to a complete authentic experience when reading this captivating tale.

“The Crossing at Cyprus Creek is Book 3, but it could be read as a stand alone.  Be warned it is so engaging that you will want to read the first two after finishing it.  Why not read them in order if you haven’t?

I found the characters to be well rounded and very realistic.  So much so my heart and emotions often went out to some of the characters, while others just made me want to yell at them.  They have good character traits, flaws, and some downright meanness in them.

This is the story of Caleb O’Shea, who returns home from being at sea for months.  He finds things quite different than when he left.  It is also the tale of Alanah Adams. As an herbalist she is a healer and knows how to identify various medicinal plants and herbs, where to find them, and how to use the.  She is a fascinating lady and I enjoyed her immensely.

67B7E650-FD16-4868-A788-9A58B6E4A2CA

Pam Hillman has written a Christian sweet historical romance with adventure and intrigue.  Danger lurks, emotions are high, and God is to be sought and obeyed in this gritty Southern novel.   Themes of faith, forgiveness, trusting God’s plan for one’s life, chivalry, love, and home are all woven deftly throughout this magnificent book.  With some twists and turns added to exquisite writing, the story had a nice steady pace with no sluggish parts.  It is a complete and total page turner.

I highly recommend this book and series.  It is definitely worth it.  I learned things, it was God glorifying, and I had a hard time putting it down.  There are discussion questions at the end so get a group together to read the series.  There is so much to dissect and disIt gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me.

About the Books

The Crossing at Cyprus Creek, Book 3

1EA07FF4-F761-4681-AD81-5DF7C07100A6A

Sailing and soldiering around the world has taken Caleb O’Shea far from his native Ireland, so he never imagined that a promise to see a fellow crewman safely home would practically land him on his brother’s doorstep. After spending years away from his family, Caleb isn’t certain what kind of reception he will receive when he steps foot in Natchez, Mississippi. The one thing he knows for sure is that he won’t stay long.

Since her sister was kidnapped by river pirates six months ago, Alanah Adams has taken special care to avoid drawing attention to herself. Those living in the rough-and-tumble settlement of Cypress Creek might even think she’s addled. But when she stumbles into Caleb and his friends in Natchez, she appears to be the picture-perfect lady.

Caleb only catches glimpses of the mysterious and beautiful Alanah before she disappears. But a chance encounter with her at his brother’s logging camp near Cypress Creek leaves him uncomfortable at the thought of the young woman traversing the dangerous area alone. At a crossroads in his life, Caleb must decide whether he wants to give up the worldly adventures he’s been seeking for one closer to home.

CBA Bestselling author PAM HILLMAN was born and raised on a dairy farm in Mississippi and spent her teenage years perched on the seat of a tractor raking hay. In those days, her daddy couldn’t afford two cab tractors with air conditioning and a radio, so Pam drove an Allis Chalmers 110. Even when her daddy asked her if she wanted to bale hay, she told him she didn’t mind raking. Raking hay doesn’t take much thought so Pam spent her time working on her tan and making up stories in her head.

The Pages of Her Life Celebrate Lit Book Tour and Giveaway

Today is my stop on “The Pages of Her Life” Book Tour and Giveaway by Celebrate Lit.  We will discuss the book, hear about the author, other stops, and the giveaway.  Don’t forget to sign up.  You can’t win if you don’t register.

My Thoughts

This is the first book that I have read by author James L. Rubart, but it will not be the last.     He has a writing style that is easy to read and difficult to stop.  Once I started this book I could not quit reading it until I had finished it.  It captured me within the first few pages and held me until the end.

There is no romance but plenty of intrigue, inspiration, mystery in this drama by author Rubart.  He makes readers ponder “who am I, really” in this beautifully crafted tale.  Are we really the same person that people think we are?  That we think we are?

This is the story of brother, Parker, and sister, Allison.  They grapple with life, the memory of their father, and taking care of their mother.  The author has done a delightful job in creating these two.  I was equally invested in their lives.  At times I wanted to swoop in and chat with Allison. We had big differences in beliefs a few times.

She has a journal as many of us do.  However, what would you do if your words were changed after you had written them?  This is what is happening in her journal.   (Now see why I could not but this exceptional book down?)

There are twist and turns galore in this novel.  It is a Christian fiction with God and faith woven masterfully throughout the entire book.  The life lessons are timely and relevant.  They deal with faith, trusting God’s leading, honesty with yourself, forgiveness, hope, contentment, and family.  This is a God honoring book leading readers to the truth that God’s voice is really the only one of which we need to listen.

I highly recommend this book.  It has a section of Discussion Questions at the back, so Book Clubs will be delighted with this find.  Men and women alike will undoubtedly love it.  It receives 5 out of 5 stars from me.  I received a copy from Celebrate Lit but was under no obligation to write a review.  These are my honest thoughts.

About the Book

Book: The Pages of Her Life

Author: James L. Rubart

Genre: Christian fiction – suspense

Release Date: May 21, 2019 Pages of Her Life cover

Award-winning and bestselling author James L. Rubart explores the way our memories shape us . . . and how they affect our beliefs.

Allison Moore has no idea why she got out of her car on that rainy March afternoon and picked up the soaked journal laying on the side of the road. Brought it home. But she did. It was empty. Except for two lines scrawled in the front, too washed out to read. And a Jesus emblem inside the back cover. Something about the journal compels her to start writing in it, capturing thoughts about her newly acquired job that she thought would be heaven, but has turned into hell. Then one day, she finds words in the center of the journal. Words she didn’t write: Mene mene tekel upharsin. After her heart stops hammering, Allison Googles the phrase, and reads the story of Belshazzar’s Feast, where a hand from God writes on the wall, and the king is slain. Fear grips her, certain God is coming after her for what she did twelve years back. What she’s done wrong her whole life. She vows to make things right. Then she discovers more phrases appearing underneath each of her journal entries. Those phrases take her on an emotional roller coaster that forces her to look at everything she believes about her past in a new light, and opens her eyes to a supernatural realm of staggering consequence.

Remi by Author Caryl McAdoo Celebrate Lit Book Tour and Giveaway

Thanks for stopping by Celebrate Lit’s book Tour and Giveaway for Remi by Author Caryl McAdoo.  For you today there is information on the book and author, my review, information on the other tour stops and the giveaway.  Be sure to read all the way down and enter.

My Thoughts

The first thing I noticed about “Remi” was the beautiful cover.  The whimsical expression on her face was just perfect.  I first met Remi in an earlier book so I was thrilled to see she had her own now.  This is a Christian historical romance about two young women traveling from a Missouri to California via wagon train.  Oh the things they see and do on this trip!

Caryl McAdoo is a masterful storyteller.   It is easy to see that she researches her stories well, and that they are well planned, organized, and expertly written.  This was one such book.  Remi didn’t ask to be read. It demanded not to be put down until I had finished it.  This is a page turning, quick read.

I was immediately invested in the life of this young woman.  From page one I was engaged in the story and with the characters.  I felt the turmoil Remi felt.  Later I became acquainted with another character and the same thing happened.  The writing took me to a place where I could imagine and relate with the people in the book.

Author McAdoo gives us characters that are quirky, lovable, and memorable.  Using vivid descriptions she brings them to life and they become our new friends.  Well, most of them.  She knows how to conjure up a rascal, too.  Remi’s mother was no Proverbs 31 woman.  Edwina, the bondswoman, was a delightful, unique gal.  I really enjoyed her.

The book flowed along at a fast pace.  Author McAdoo has certainly done her research.  As I read about their journey west, I felt like I was traveling with them.  The descriptions were spot on.  It was evident the author had done her research on this well planned and well organized book.  It was not an easy trip to say the least.  The Oregon Trail was full of unknown trials and struggles.  I felt sorry for those traveling and the hardships they endured.  It made me realize just how easy our life is today.

As in all of this author’s books, I did not need to wonder if this was a Christian fiction.  It is plain by reading it that it is.  There are plenty of inspirational messages in this Christian, historical, romantic fiction.  Humor has been sprinkled into and I actually giggled while I read some parts – “I never dreamed oxen wore shoes.”

I loved the authentic dialog and even learned a new word or two.  “….I have this balky tooth.” Not only was it the period but also Edwina was from England that kept the language  different in this “lovely” book. Parts of the book did have some modern tones to them, but overall it sounded as though I was back in time.

This book is another gem in author McAdoo’s crown of achievements.  It taught me about the Oregon Trail, being on a schooner, and even oxen.  I love it when a book I am reading for fun teaches me things!  There are life and inspirational lessons on faith, love, trust, guidance, hope, and forgiveness.  Relationships between friends, family, and suitors are examples of good and bad and the author offers solutions.

I highly recommend this for anyone that enjoys historical fiction.  It is an easy to read, sweet book.  I rated it 5 out of 5 stars.  A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but I was under no obligation to write a review.

About the Author

Caryl McAdooFor research in December, Caryl McAdoo hit the trail—literally, the Oregon / California Trail—beginning in St. Jo, Missouri with the Napa Valley being her destiny. No wonder readers enjoy her novels so well! She prays her story brings God glory, and He blesses the award-winning, best-selling novels with a lion’s share of 5-Star ratings! With forty-three titles (thirty-three in the last four-and-a-half years), it’s obvious she loves writing almost as much as singing the new songs the Lord gives her. (Listen to a few at YouTube.) Celebrating fifty years being married to Ron, her high school sweetheart, she counts their four children and eighteen grandsugars life’s best blessings. The McAdoos live in the woods south of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in far Northeast Texas, waiting expectantly for God to open the next door.

More from Caryl

Remi, my May ‘Prairie Roses Collection’ story, picks up where Uniquely Common, my April ‘Lockets and Lace Collection’ story ends! Well, actually it backs up a bit to Remi’s decision to go west! In Uniquely Common, you meet her after she’s already in Saint Jo, trying to join the wagon train.

I fell in love with this semi-introvert, lover of literature, highly intelligent young lady, and felt the cover captured her exactly! (Thank you, Chautona Having, my new amazing cover designer! I am so blessed!)

Remi, short for Remington—her middle name as she hates her first name Agnus—is an only child reared by a single mother. Her father left years ago; she’s never met him and decides to go to California where his last letter was postmarked to do just that. It’s a long way from New York City, but better than sailing across the Atlantic.

And she can’t stay there with nowhere to live since her newest stepfather is whisking her mother overseas to his villa in Southern France. They invite her of course, but she hates boats and gets frightfully seasick! It seems the perfect time to go west and meet her Daddy. Riding in a prairie schooner would be a lark!

Researching for the covered wagons heading west led my dear husband to ask if I wanted to drive the Oregon / California Trail. Yes, yes, yes, I assured him! What could be better than seeing the rivers my wagon train had to cross, the amazing sights my characters would experience, and the terrain they navigated for ourselves?

What an opportunity God put before me!

Two weeks and forty-three hundred-plus miles later, we got back home to Clarksville, enthralled with our journey. That trip has made this story so much better for me! I hope it will make it all the better for you, too! I praise and give glory to the Lord for His many blessings and high favor.

I’m so grateful for the stories He gives us, His divine appointments—like with Sandy Barela, the founder of Celebrate Lit, all her amazing bloggers and reviewers—the doors He opens, my new cover designer Chautona Havig and all the fictional characters He introduces me to and allows me to share with you!

The God Dare: Will You Choose to Believe the Impossible? by Kate Battistelli

My Thoughts

I hadn’t heard of author Kate Battistelli before this book but her name sounded familiar. Do you think so, too?   Ahhhh, you are smarter than I am.  Yes, she is related to singer Francesca Battistelli, her mother in fact.  While we all know her daughter can singer what we did not know is that Mama can write!

This is a transparent, open look into the author’s life and her relationship with God.  It is written eloquently and gracefully flows from the pages of her book into readers’ hearts.  The stories are so personal and interesting that I felt like I was chatting with a new friend.

In her book, the author discusses how God has plans for each one of us.  He also offers assistance to equip us to accomplish our task.  Like the saying goes, God doesn’t call the qualified but qualifies the called.

She is open and honest with her journey.  There are many personal and family stories of listening to God and following Him.  Biblical stories are used, also.  All of these to help readers realize that we were all born for a purpose at this time.  Our first duty is to find our purpose and the second is to do it.  With God’s leading and helping us, anything is possible.

This is a thought provoking book that will have your wheels turning.  Author Kate challenges readers to search and find our purpose.  Then take the big step and begin working on it.  This will take a lot of prayer, listening for God, trusting Him, and courage.

I love the line “God sees us according to our destiny, not our history.”  God is presented lovingly, approachable, and caring by the author, which is how I perceive Him.  The God Dare is such an encouraging, uplifting book.  I loved it.

I highly recommend it to everyone.  Seasoned Christians will benefit from the refreshing tone and delightful stories that turn hearts and minds to God and what His plans are for each of us.  New Christians or Seekers will benefit, too.  The true, honest writing and sweet words will help draw them in and answer some questions.  They will be inspired and encouraged.

This would be a nice book for a church library.  Yes, a study group would really enjoy it, too.  I will be keeping this in my library but encouraging many people to buy and read it. It gets a 5 out of 5 star rating from me.  A copy was provided by the publisher but I was under no obligation to write a review.  These are my own, honest words.

The Inn at Hidden Run by Olivia Newport Celebration Lit Book Tour and Giveaway

Greetings!  You made it to my stop on the Inn at Hidden Run by Olivia Newport Celebrate Lit Book Tour.  Today I will share my thoughts on the book, information on it and the author, have some words from her, a schedule of the other stops, and information on the giveaway.  So keep reading and don’t forget to enter.

My Thoughts

The Inn at Hidden Run by author Olivia Newport is a dual time period (contemporary and historical) Christian mystery romance.  Author Newport is a grand storyteller.  She weaves past and present together flawlessly into one poignant tale.

This is the contemporary tale of genealogist Jillian and her attorney father, Nolan, from Colorado who together trace family histories for people.    It is also the tale of a family of doctors and the yellow fever outbreak in Memphis, Tennessee in late 1870’s.  The family turned up in research when Jillian began helping Meri, a new girl in town.

This is a very interesting plot.  The author did a wonderful job with research and providing an authentic story.  I am a historical fiction lover over contemporary, so needless to say, I enjoyed reading that portion just a tad bit more.

Author Newport’s tale pulled at my heartstrings.  Parts of it brought tears to my eyes.  I was invested in both of the intertwined storied.  Her style of writing is easy and unrushed.  She allows you to soak in all of the details and transport yourself to a different locale or era, and sometimes both.  The characters were well rounded.  They had good points and flaws.  Some of them felt like new friends and I wants to have coffee with them.

The historical section read very authentic.  The characters were likable and genuinely cared for people.  I learned a lot about Memphis and the Yellow Fever.   Like I said earlier, this is a well researched, organized, planned, and written novel.

The inspirational and faith element is laced throughout this lovely book.  Life lessons of forgiveness, grace, finding God’s Will for your life, family, love, caring for ill, and hope are just a few things I found inside the pages.

I definitely would recommend this book.  Get a book group together so that you will be able to toss some questions around.  Genealogy lovers will enjoy the book as will mystery buffs.  Contemporary and Historical fiction will each have a section to like and one to test.  It gets a 4 out of 5 stars from me.

A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but I was under no obligation to write a review.  These are my own honest thoughts.

Of Family Lines and Family Lore

I suppose it all started in a cemetery.

Once, while a group of relatives were visiting a cemetery, one of my cousins and I wandered off and looked at all sorts of graves, speculating about the names we read and the lives they represented. We were duly scolded both for separating from our families, which caused some consternation, and for being disrespectful—though I think the second accusation was a false one!

Just because we were young children didn’t mean we were disrespecting the dead. Quite the opposite. We were respecting lives long forgotten with our curiosity about who they were and what legacies they left.

These days a lot of people are interested in genealogy. Entire TV series spin around the theme, and DNA kits show up in Christmas stockings. Lost branches of family trees find the main trunk—sometimes with big surprises.

My new Tree of Life series is set in the backdrop of a lovely Colorado mountain town I hope you’ll want to visit often, where a father-daughter genealogy team link present to past on family trees and characters learn about who they are, where they come from, and their unique faith journeys as they discover their own Tree of Life.

It all starts with The Inn at Hidden Run. When Meri arrives in Canyon Mines because she wants to run away from her family, true answers come from understanding the past that generations have forgotten—the accounts from another time and place no longer handed down but that still form the backbone of the family’s story.

What’s the backbone of your family’s history? How is it shaping your own future?

The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay Celebrate Lit Book Tour and Giveaway

Today’s blog is a stop on the book tour for The Printed Letter Bookshop.  I have lots of information for you including how to enter the giveaway.  Be sure to enter.  You can’t win unless you do.

My Thoughts

As a former Christian Bookstore owner I was delighted when I heard about this book.  I actually got a bit giddy when I received it in the mail.  This contemporary Christian romance is centered around books, a bookstore, and three women friends.  How could it be anything other than fabulous?

Katherine Reay is a new to me author.  I enjoyed her style of writing.  The point of view changes for each of the three main characters, but it was done flawlessly.  I actually enjoyed it.  The story flowed at an even, natural pace.  It didn’t lag or feel rushed.  Conversations sounded genuine.  There were some twists and turns to make it interesting.

The characters were easy to become engaged with and were identifiable.  They were well rounded with quirks and all.  The author vividly describes them and they become new friends.  At times I felt their sadness, pain, and joy.

I was immediately invested since it was about a bookshop.  However, the book opens with a funeral and takes a bit before it gets to a happy place.  I was getting impatient and wanted to hurry through the story to get to the bookshop!

Madeline inherits her Aunt Maddie’s bookshop where she helped as a girl.  Then something happened between her father and aunt making them estranged.   We meet Janet and Claire.  They are her friends or ladies working for her and are unique in their own ways.

It is a very realistic tale.  Author Reay has done her research well.  This book is well planned, well organized, and written exceptionally well.  It was light on the spirit content for me, but it had great life lessons for hope, forgiveness, friendship, mercy, grace, and love.  All in all it was an encouraging book.

I definitely recommend this book to all women.  It has an entertaining story.  Any reader should enjoy a book about books and a bookstore.  It is a cozy, quick read that made me giggle a time or two.  The romance is sweet.  I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars.  A copy was provided from Celebrate Lit, but I was under no obligation to  write a review.

About the Book

Book: The Printed Letter Bookshop

Author: Katherine Reay

Genre: Women’s fiction, romance

Release Date: May 14, 2019

The Printed Letter Bookshop CoverAmid literature and lattes, three women come together and find that sharing one’s journey with best friends makes life richer.

When attorney Madeline Carter inherits her aunt’s bookstore in a small town north of Chicago, she plans to sell it and add the proceeds to her nonexistent “investment portfolio.” But plans change when Madeline discovers the store isn’t making money and she gets passed over for promotion at her firm. She quits in protest, takes the train north, and decides to work at the store to prep it for sale. Madeline soon finds herself at odds with employees Jessica and Courtney; when she also finds herself attracted to an affianced man, it only confuses the entire situation.

After blowing up her marriage two years earlier, Jessica has found solace working at the bookstore and a kindred spirit within its owner, Maddie Cullen. But when Maddie dies and her niece, Madeline, barges in like a bulldozer, Jessica pushes at the new owner in every way-until she trips over common ground. Soon the women are delving into online dating and fashion makeovers, and Jessica feels the pull to rediscover her art, a love she thought long behind her.

After a night of bad decisions leaves the store in peril, Courtney arrives and tries to save the day. While she, too, found sanctuary in the little bookstore, she knows it’s under-insured, in the red, and will never survive. When she discovers her teenage daughter has played a part in vandalizing the store, Courtney taps into strength she didn’t know existed-or had long forgotten. The quietest of the three, she steps up and finds a way to save her family, the store, and the precious friendships that have grown within it.

The Printed Letter Bookshop is the story of friends who find each other-and themselves-in a place none of them ever expected.

More from Katherine

Don’t you love bookshops?

Every time I walk into a bookstore, it feels like a rainbow cracked open and rained a kaleidoscope of light, life and possibilities before me. I find worlds within the world and a call to adventure.

Each bookshop tells a different story. It tells of its loyal beloved customer base. It reflects the personality of its owner and staff. It carries the aura of the stories it offers to us.

And it was the perfect place to dig into lives, hearts and book loves of Janet, Claire and Madeline. These three women, at different stages in life, meet at the Printed Letter Bookshop, with all the romance and wonder it holds, and learn to work through their challenges together. They become the friends that each didn’t know she was missing.

There is also a fourth woman I loved spending time with in the Printed Letter Bookshop — its original owner, Maddie Carter. Maddie doesn’t step onto the stage even once, but her presence, her love and her guiding hand are apparent from page one as Janet, Claire, and Madeline grow in friendship and in faith.

The Printed Letter Bookshop is a love letter to books, a testament to the beauty of new beginnings and a sweet reminder of the power of friendship. I hope you savor your time with these three women — And, book lovers rejoice, there is a list of all the books they allude to in the back of the book!

Core 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year by Mark E. Moore

Core 52: A Fifteen-Minute Daily Guide to Build Your Bible IQ in a Year by author Mark E. Moore is a useful tool for anyone wanting to delve deeper into studying the Bible.  It has a remarkable 15 minute daily lesson on popular, key or core scripture.   Everything is covered from Creation to Heaven.

In this easy to follow guide the daily lesson includes an essay about a theme found in the Bible, verses to memorize, scripture to read, an “overachiever challenge,” along with a book suggestion that goes with the theme for the week. Some of the topics were prayer, grace, creation, prophesy, the Holy Spirit, heaven, among many others.  I found the lessons kept my interest, gave me a fresh or newer perspective on some things, and enhanced my Bible study time. It increased my hunger for deeper study of the Word.

If you have ever wanted a book to assist with Bible reading and home study, this is it.  I loved the concept, lessons, and everything about it.  The author has done an exemplary job in his research, notes, planning, organizing, and writing this God glorifying book.  Whether you are a seasoned Bible reader or new fledgling just beginning, you will glean much from this spirit filled book.

Some of the lessons were easier for me than others and the time flew by.  Others I needed to slow down and let the information sink in.  I had to ponder about what I had read.  Don’t rush through the studies with a 15 minute timer.  If you need more time, then slow down and let the words slowly flow from the pages.

This will be a staple in my home library and a gift giving idea for many years.  It will be a perfect Bible Study for the Small Group I keep wanting to have even though it is for individuals.  My dog was the recipient of many comments on this book as was my cat.  It has the type of lesson you want to share.

I highly, most highly, recommend this fabulous study tool to everyone.  It is in one word – amazing.  The rating I give this is a high 5 stars out of 5.  A copy was provided by the publisher but I was under no obligation to provide a review.

“Faith is for Weak People, Responding to the Top 20 Objections to the Gospel” by Ray Comfort

My Thoughts

This is a 224 page paperback Apologetic book by Ray Comfort that everyone should have in their Christian arsenal.  Church libraries need this, also.  In his book, author Ray Comfort takes the twenty most asked questions or objections to scripture and provides simple, accurate, easy to understand answers.

The writing is straightforward and so easy to understand.  It’s in plain language so anyone will be able to comprehend it.  The frank answers are biblically based and make sense.  This is just the information any Christian needs to answer tough questions.  Seekers would benefit from this book, also.

There are twenty chapters in this book, one for each question.  The author answers them in a comfortable style that is like having a cup of coffee and chatting with a friend.  The answers are so logical.  Author Comfort has done his research and provided a remarkable book to aid in any discussion with non-believers in a non-combatant way.

646652ED-20E2-48DE-8AAD-8323D44D8C31

The author has interviewed various people and incorporated their answers in this eye opening book.  The answers to all of the questions are eloquently stated.  This book does not want to offend but educate.  Questions range from “If God is supposed to be in control of the world why does it seem so out of control?” and “If God is so loving why won’t Christians let gay people be themselves?” to “ The Bible was written by men. Men make mistakes?” and “ what’s so bad about other religions?”

This phenomenal book begins with a table of contents and then a short introduction. These are followed by its twenty chapters. Each chapter answers one of the questions and at the end has follow-up or study questions or further delving into its topic.  After the twenty chapters are Conclusion, Notes, and information on the author.

I highly recommend recommend this book.  It will be a staple on my bookshelf for future reference.  Everyone should read this amazing book.  Answers to hard questions are tackled and successfully answered in a magnificent way.  It is biblically based and organized in such a way that the information flows from the pages into the readers’ minds and hearts.  Anyone would benefit from reading this book.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.  A copy was provided by the publisher but I was under no obligation to write a review.

Tongues of Fire Celebrate Lit Book and Giveaway

Greetings from my stop of the Celebration Lit Book tour for  Tongues of Fire, 50 days of celebrating Pentecost devotional book.  There is information about the book, tour stops, and Giveaway.  Don’t forget to enter!

My Thoughts

Tongues of Fire is a 50 day devotional celebrating Pentecost.  The book opens and asks why we don’t celebrate Pentecost?  We celebrate Christmas and Easter.  It goes on to explain the importance of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.

There are fifty devotions to help better understand Pentecost by giants of faith both classic and contemporary.  I knew most of them but a few were new to me.  The devotions are all different and inspiring.

A great number of the devotions are about speaking in tongues.  This Methodist raised gal is unfamiliar with that.  I am open-minded and have heard various thoughts on it.  Another topic given a lot of  days was healing.

Some of the devotions spoke to me more than others.  I agree that we all need to welcome and accept the Holy Spirit into our lives.  Jesus sent Him to us for a reason.  One devotion said “when you receive the power of the Holy Spirit, you become someone you could never be on your own”.   I totally agree.

Another devotional said “Simply by paying attention to what He is doing and cooperating  with Him, we come to understand God better.  Who doesn’t want to know God better?  I certainly do.

This was a devotional that is meant to be read over a period of 50 days.  I read it in just a few days in order to write this review.  Some of the days spoke straight to me and I was inspired.  Other days were hard to understand.  I felt chastised in a few places rather than enlightened.

I did not receive answers to some of my questions.  It is a hard to read at times devotional and not exactly uplifting.  It felt more scholarly.  Scripture is plentiful.  This is definitely biblically based.

I would recommend this for anyone wanting to delve deeper into the Holy Spirit and Pentecost.  It is good for learning a little about speaking in tongues.  I would not recommend it for a young person, simply because I had trouble in some parts.  I rated it 3 out of 5 stars.  Celebrate provided an e-book but I was under no obligation to write a review.
